Family Pressure

November 2028 - Arcadia, North Carolina
William Lloyd is 64,  Julie is 64, Blake is 39

“Take this and you should be feeling better tomorrow,” Blake Lloyd tells Bianca Gates as he hands over the little cup with thick liquid medicine in it.

“Are you sure?” She had been brought in by her mom with stomach pains that had her almost crying. But the tests didn’t show anything to be worried about, so Blake gives her some medicine to help settle her stomach.

“I’m sure,” he says, smiling at her.

So Bianca takes her medicine and Blake releases her from his care.

“Bye, Dr. Lloyd!” she calls as she leaves the room.

Blake moves on to the patient in the next room. It is a busy day at Arcadia Hospital.

And to his dismay, all of the women he sees today are married or in a tight relationship. He thought being a doctor would introduce him to people, and it does. But not the kind of single woman he’s looking for.

His days at the hospital are busy, but he enjoys working as a doctor, finally holding his full Doctorate degree and making the kind of money he’s always hoped for.

William is still working as a nurse at the hospital, but he’s started to find his days there feel too long. He’d rather be at home relaxing.

But he feels like he would be giving up on the life he’s had since college. Julie tells him it’s okay if he wants to retire. But she still works as a doctor at Arcadia Hospital and doesn’t act like she wants to stay home full-time.

Still, he enjoys being home and cooking up gourmet meals for his wife and son.

Even when no one is home to eat right away. Work at the hospital doesn’t mean they can get home for freshly cooked food.

Julie is eating late one night after a long day at work when Blake arrives home.

“Busy day?” she asks her son.

“Very busy,” he says.

“Any single women who might be interested in getting to know a doctor?”

Blake sighs. “You don’t have to keep track of my dating life,” he says.

“I just want you to be happy like your brothers. They have families to come home to.”

“You and Dad aren’t family?”

Julie sighs. “That’s not what I meant.”

Julie stays busy at the hospital. The next day a pregnant woman comes in for help and passes out on the floor.

Julie takes her to the MRI machine to take a look at the woman and her baby. She’s able to diagnose her and give her the medicine she needs.

William finally gives his resignation from the nursing world. He spends his time writing a memoir about his life in the medical field.

Other people might not want to read it, but he enjoys writing it.

After work one evening, Blake heads out to The Willow to meet up with his family. His brother Jason is in town for a couple of days and so his parents want to have a family dinner with all of their boys.

As soon as they sit down, his brothers want to discuss why Blake still isn’t married or dating someone seriously.

“He’s too picky,” Seth says. “He expects more than the average woman can give him.”

“He’ll find the right woman,” William tells his family. “She just hasn’t come into his life yet.”

Their parents head over to the salad bar, leaving Blake alone with his brothers.

“Why are you obsessed with whether I’m getting married?” he asks. “I’m just fine the way my life is.”

“We want to make sure you’re happy,” Jason says.

“Well, I am. And if you ask me, you’re jealous that I have freedom.”

Blake gets up and leaves his brothers at the table before he can say anything else that is inspired by his anger.

Downstairs gives him a chance to let out an angry breath, trying to calm down from his family intruding in his love life.

He sees Terri Gates standing nearby, and she catches his eye in that little dress.

But Terri is still married to Nathan, and even though they have their own problems they are out for a romantic dinner together.

Terri was always too much for a sensible man to deal with anyway. Blake doesn’t feel like he’s missing out on her, even if she is still nicely figured to look at. Taking in the view is still allowed in his terms.

The hostess catches his eye and she smiles at him when she feels his attention on her.

But she quickly tells him she’s married.

Should he do online dating? Is that where all the available women are?

His phone isn’t getting a good signal and he groans at it angrily.

“Is there anything I can help you with?”

One of the waitresses is standing near him. He can’t help noticing how beautiful she is.

“I’m just having a bad night in general,” Blake tells her with a sigh. He sits down in one of the waiting chairs.

She sits down with him. “I’m on a break right now. Need someone to talk to? I’m Jennifer, by the way.”

———————-

The woman he’s sitting with is Nina Caliente, but I don’t want to use that Sim history in my game. So she’s been renamed and will be different than the history Nina has.

But geez, Blake kept coming across married women! I thought I might have to divorce one just to let him have the possibility of dating!

And is there a mod that will hide those hearts over the patients’ heads? It annoys me that the “headlineeffects off” doesn’t hide them.

  1. Do you use Wicked Whims? I know there's a setting in it that seems to hide *everything* - plumbbobs, info boxes you get when you hover over sims and objects, skill bars, etc. I have all the autonomy turned off, because it gets really crazy if I don't but it has some nice G/PG features on top of all the sex stuff, including that setting. I'm not positive it will do what you want it to but it seems to hide everything else!

Anyway, I think it's fun to repurpose the EA sims sometimes! Who knows? Maybe Nina-now-Jennifer is the perfect woman for Blake!

I'd love to read William's memoir, actually! I have a memoir written by a former doctor on my Goodreads list - it's supposed to be really great. :)

    1. Thanks! I'll take a look at that mod and see if it works for me. :)

I'm hoping Blake may have finally found the right partner. Ha, William probably has a lot to say about the nursing world! ;)

  2. Blake seems like a really decent guy but is unlucky in love. Maybe the right woman will come into his life when he least expects it. It's good that he doesn't feel too pressured to get married even if his family insist on letting him know about it.

I often have that struggle too with townie sims, almost all of them are married and have a family. I find the only ones that aren't are too young. That's when I usually make a new sim in CAS. ;)
