“It’s a day out on the town,” Baine says. “I thought you might enjoy it.”
Baine looks at the other guy seated nearby and the bartender. “Did I do something wrong?”
He knows Violet won’t easily forgive him if they stay there, so he catches up her and pulls her close to him.
“This isn’t the big surprise I told you about,” Baine says.
“Then what is?”
But he only smiles at her. “Let’s go.”
They go to the local park, which isn’t exactly the surprise she had expected.
“I brought you out here to ask a question I know you’ve been wanting to hear,” Baine tells her.
“What is it?” Violet asks.
She’ll be Mrs. Violet Austin. Not Mrs. Baine Austin because she doesn’t believe in referring to herself only by his name. She might change her last name, but she would still be Violet, not Mrs. Baine.
Violet pulls her phone from her pocket and taps the name of one of her contacts. “Mom? I’ve got the best news you’ll ever hear.”

Baine really did want to propose. He rolled that on his own, so I had to follow his wishes.
